i just finish reading novel written by Orhan Pamuk entitled; My name is Red, or in original language it is benim Kirmizi.
this novel is awsome, it has many characters and the writer told the story from each character’s feeling and point of view. thus, do not imagine that you will read the whole story as if someone detached from it knew everything and told u the story. it is like we are talking to each character as the characters are TALKING to us.
‘My name is Red”, won the noble prize for literature in 2006 . the topic alone is unique and attracting; it was about assassination of Sultan’s illustrators in Turky done by one of them who was afraid of the foreign influence over their original arts and literatures. the details are there. It is illustrating how western and eastern culture collided and took its innocent tolls.
yet, it needs patience to read this thick novel as it is very thick and also demands us to think, to digest any clue leading to revealing the murder. besides, inside the main story you will read many other parables which i am sure i am not familiar with.
and another good news is that the writer is a bold man ! :))) hip hip hurray, hee hee hee hee http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orhan_Pamuk

i dont think i understand what you meant by ‘satanic verses’, which part of the book display those verses?, if we read the SAME book, then i believe that it is all about some people or in this case is the murderer who narrow-mindedly interpreted the emergence and the influence of different culture.
almost all the characters there are having the same religion but only one person end up as murderer since he is the only one who misinterpretedly see the changes in his surrounding with his view toward his religion.
thus not the belief or the religion that becomes the “problem” here, but the misinterpretation.
i believe that Orhan prefers to see da conflict as cultural conflict rather than religion one.
EAST AND WEST BELONG TO ALLOH, it is NEVER satanic verses. it’s the truth

uh…I think you don’t know which book I was talking about.
I mean, yes, My Name Is Red is about a murderer among the miniaturists in Ottoman society because of a controversial book commission, but The Satanic Verses is an entirely different book and its author is the famous Salman Rushdie 🙂
What I meant in my previous comment is that I’m left with a few pages to read for My Name Is Red and the next book I’m going to read is The Satanic Verses.
